Race Report

by Eddie Cowell

Venue: Manly boat harbour.

 

Conditions: 26º and fine. Low tide -- 10-15kn NE breeze.

 

Course: Two triangles & Sausage.

We had constant breeze all day however the wind direction made it difficult to setup a decent windward beat. Briefing and racing got under way at 10:00am

 

The races:

Peter Kampe started strongly with his Mojo design winning two of the first three races, however Ashley was close on his heels all day finishing with eight 2nds and one 1st. A flat battery in race 12 was his only bad race. Peter was sailing superbly during the middle section picking up a further three wins bringing his tally to 5 wins from 10 races. Tom Butler finally got his act together  winning five races on the back 9. This was enough to secure Tom 3rd overall. Ashley's consistency handed him 2nd only 4 pts off our deserving Champion for 2006 Peter Kampe.

 

Summary:

  • Congratulations to Peter and Ashley for making it close all day.

  • Andrew Milne with 3 wins and a couple of 2nd's deserves a mention.

  • Starts were congested but surprisingly enough infringements were few and far between.

  • Jelly fish made life tough at times. They could stop you dead at the worse possible time.
