Contrary to predictions, weather for the SEQ 10Rater Championships was about as good as one would want for a regatta such as this with weather coming in from the E & NE at around <\>10 km\hour average for the weekend.

Typically, with weather from this direction, one had to work hard for their points due to the many shifts that Lake Laguna in renowned for – no excuses are implied or made for this as this is what it is all about – using one’s nose to sniff out the shifts!!

As per the final results, a total of 11 entrants signed on for the event on day 1 – unfortunately, day 2 saw only 7 entrants complete the series for various reasons (possible election shock maybe?).

A total of 40 events were run under the “watchful” eye of Richard Harradine, assisted by John Francis, of Twin Towns RY Club – 21 races were run on Day 1 with the remaining 19 run on day 2 – the general consensus was that Richard did a great job keeping the events flowing in an orderly fashion.

As can be seen from the results, Bill Wright was the person to beat, and for reasons known only to those involved, this proved to be a hopeless task – but we tried!! -

Kevin Skues was consistently in 2nd place on both days mixed in with some 1st’ placing’s.

Ian Thompson kept 3rd place thru to circa midday on the 2nd day when he lost it to Les Brown and Bob Newcombe due to sail separation & buoy tagging – “masking tape” on sails does not work at all!

Catering was supplied by the Gold Coast Radio Yacht Club on both days and for this we must thank JJ Scerri for his efforts on both days – well done JJ!!

Generally, the final results really speak clearly for themselves, with a good time had by all – none of this could have happened without the assistance of the IOM sailors who manned the rescue boat and spotting infringements.

Finally, but not least, we all owe a large debt of gratitude to David Black who manned the computer and results – we greatly appreciate the efforts David made for the event on our behalf.
