Report on
Bundaberg EC12 event. |
|
Saturday morning started with 5 local skippers and 5 from Brisbane sailing in 10
to 15 knots SE in the pond at the Bundaberg Botanic Gardens. Racing got under
way at 11am with most of the fleet using A rigs, Alex Pashley sailed with a B
rig and did well in the middle of the fleet. Tom Butler was consistent with his
performance with Graeme Turk and Malcolm Kempe following closely behind. First
time Bundaberg Club member sailors Toni Walmsley and George Morphett sailed
borrowed boats from Ken Smith and Yeoman Sands. A BBQ lunch at 1pm was put on by
the local Club. Sailing resumed at 1.30pm.
Malcolm Kempe was out for 2 races with winch problems. Racing concluded at 4pm
with 16 races completed with Tom Butler, Malcolm Kempe and Graeme Turk leading
the field.
Sunday sailing got under way by 10am with the wind from the South for the first
3 races. The OOD Kevin Walmsley had to re-set the course when the wind swung
back into the SE at 10 to 15 knots. Tom Butler still continued his winning way
with the mid fleet George Morphett and Alex Pashley rivaling for 5th & 6th
places with Ken Smith and Ian Gilmore finding the windy conditions very trying
and Yeoman Sands managing to hold onto 4th place after being tangled in the
trees and missing one race with winch problems. Local Club member Brian Bedford
was unable to sail on Saturday but joined in on Sunday managing a 3rd and 4th
place in two of the races. BBQ lunch was called for at 12pm racing getting under
way again at 12.45pm with winds strengthening to the top end of A rig making
sailing very trying. It was pleasing to have no protests lodged with all
infringements settled on the water in a quiet and gentlemanly fashion, a credit
to all the sailors. 12 races were completed for the day and special thanks got
the OOD Kevin Walmsley and Doug Farrell for doing the scoring and the local Club
members who helped with buoy watching and other tasks. Thanks must go to the
Bundaberg Club for running a good event in the ideal setting of the Botanic
Gardens. Racing concluded at 2pm with Prize giving at 2.30pm letting the
Brisbane sailors head off home at a reasonable hour.
