Scratch Racing Series round 6 at Isles of Newport

After a week of wet weather the skies cleared and we had a total of 13 boats lined up for the start of our racing this week.  The breeze was light from the ESE at about 5-8 knots with some bullets of about 12 knots to keep everyone on their toes.  For the last four races the wind piped up a bit to just about “B” rig but only one boat changed down and it did not do him any harm, even downwind.

The required number of races for the series were completed with only a few infringements which were quickly sorted out on the water and racing continued.

A couple of visitors were Jeff Byerly with nicely finished Extreme and Bill Clancy with his Cockatoo 2.  Both did very well and showed our members that we need to lift our game if we want to win.  Tom Butler was trying out some sails in preparation for his trip to France for the World titles next month with Jeff also going to give it a go.

Brian Lever launched his new Cockatoo 2 today but retired early with battery problems.  For info,….. Brian is slowly coming good after his operation last month, still sore but getting there

Today was a good day and everyone enjoyed it yet again, but what else could you do on the best bit of water in the state.
