Scratch Racing Series round 8. 25th November 2007

What a perfect day it was to end our sailing season for 2007.  With a 5 – 8 knot breeze from the East with a few bullets to keep the skippers alert heading to the first mark it augured well for some good racing.

The course was to the East with a Port rounding then NNW to the wing mark then SE to the leeward mark with a windward and return and a beat to the finish.  The wind was a bit shifty but not enough to require moving the buoys.

Ten skippers fronted up, all in “A” rigs and looking forward to some good racing.  The PRO Graeme Turk welcomed all skippers and a new member Michael Retchford sailing a Mojo No.72 and a visitor Brad Ginnivan sailing a TS.1 No.73 from Wynnum club.

Racing got away on time and was hotly contested with a couple of calls taken to protest for sorting out.  All boats were very competitive and the results will show just that.

A couple of skippers had to drop out due to rudder failures which depleted the fleet a little but made more room on the start line.  A very good starboard line had been laid and a good on time start was needed to get a podium finishing place.

All skippers were smiling at the end of the day and our visitor said he was impressed with the venue and had enjoyed the visit.

Ian Gilmour did fine job of scoring from his chair under the shade tent and Graeme Turk was tops as PRO.

Our next scheduled event is Trophy Presentation and BBQ on December 9th from 4-4.30 pm at Ian Gilmour’s place for all our members.  If you intend to be there contact Ian to let him know asap.

I would like to wish all our members a Merry Christmas and a very good Sailing New Year.
