Ben Leigh-Smith and
I decide to fly to Melbourne for the Victorian Titles. The first day of
sailing saw very trying conditions with 0 to 5 knots coming from all
directions. Famous one minute, out the back door the next. Craig Smith
showed his speed from the start to be out front most times while the next
group of five boats just kept taking points off each other. After day one
and some questioning why we bothered to make the trip for these conditions,
the three Queenslanders - Jeff Byerley , Ben Leigh-Smith and I were all
equal on points in second place with Craig already having a healthy lead on
points. Day two came early as Ben and I were leaving Davies night club at
4.30 in the morning obviously to eager to sleep that night. By lunchtime the
wind had shifted 90 degrees and started to fill to B rig . This saw some
close racing for the rest of the day with many choosing C rig as a safer
option to getting flattened down wind as the wind strength rose later that
afternoon. All in all an enjoyable weekend away sailing, with great
hospitality from our Victorian friends, which certainly made the trip worth
it.

P.S I will only
fly Virgin Blue from now on as we were stung $70 dollars in excess baggage
from Jetstar on the way home! |
