Today’s workshop (impromptu) but very informative, was a practical
explanation of the Rule 18 and when it is in effect and when it is
not. A few surprised looks and gasps of anguish were followed by
furious thumbing of rule book pages. Thank you to Bill Clancy, your
knowledge is much appreciated.
A
day of de ja vu as the weather was identical to last week. Mal
started the day in ‘B’ rig for the first three races, while everyone
else was in ‘A’ rig but the wind was strengthening from the NE by
race 5 and half the fleet changed to ‘B’ rig and Mal who changed to
‘A’ rig at lunchtime stuck it out with the comment “you have to do
something different to get a win in this group “.
Wins were shared among Brad, Ben, Lindsay, Bill and Mal and the
scores reflected how close the racing was.
Recently, we have had a small numbers of 10R skippers join us at
Emerald Lakes and they are planning to sail each week. They set
their own course and conduct their own races, so if you have a 10R
of RM sitting at home, come and join them as they have a great deal
of fun. Long courses on open water with no obstacles, (except those
pesky buoys) and friendly, happy faces.
Next week many of the IOM skippers with be contesting the Brisbane
IOM Challenge at Carbrook, but I am sure there will be some sailing
happening at Emerald Lakes, if you had planned to attend.
