The NSW 10
Rater State Championships were held at Forster
Tuncurry over the weekend
of
10th and 11th November,
attracting skippers from NSW, QLD, and VIC.
With the
weather leading up to the event, there were plenty of skippers
that were considering stopping
the preparation of their boats, to help build the
Ark.
The Friday night and Saturday morning before the event produced
80 mm of rain, let alone what had fallen the week prior!
So you
could say that things were a little wet under foot, and the
probable reason for 6 of the 17 skippers entered not
turning
up.
The
start
of the event was delayed due to a lack of breeze. Around
11am, we had a
slight breeze from the South, then the West, then North, then
South, then East,
PRO
Rod Wilson set to the task of trying to set the
course.
We finally
got underway, and the breeze started to co-operate, blowing from
the East for the majority of the day, some good top end A rig
sailing was had. After some 23 races, day one was over, and it
was time for some repairs, and a few quiet ales.
Day 2, the
sun was shining and the pond was like a sheet of glass, but by
10 am we
had enough wind to start sailing.
The breeze
filled in again from the East for some more top end A rig
sailing, Rod Wilson again cracking the whip, and managing to get
in another 23 races, 46 in total, and there were plenty of
exhausted skippers.
At the end
of the day, it was Chris Stokes in 1st, Greg Willis
2nd and Bill
Wright 3rd, the Bob
Shedden Memorial Trophy going to Owen
Jarvis.
On behalf
of all the skippers,
I would like to thank
the guys from the Forster
Tuncurry Model Yacht Club for their efforts.
They
put on a great event, on one of the best lakes I have ever
sailed on,
46 races in total, and only the one protest.
Well
done!!!
Chris Stokes
