Māori Interest Group TENTH BIRTHDAY CELEBRATIONS 2004

The MIG formed in 1993 and the NZSG ratified the MIG at the Christchurch Council Meeting

on Saturday 3^rd December 1994

 

Maori Interest Group celebrates its 10th birthday!

 

This anniversary was celebrated during the afternoon tea break of the Council Meeting held at the FRC on Saturday 6th November 2004.

 

Harete Phillips (Convenor) welcomed Councillors and visitors. Certificates were presented to all founding members after which Graeme Constable (NZSG President) expressed his congratulations to the Group and wished us well for the future.

 

Harete and Viv Birch (MIG Secretary) ceremoniously cut the beautifully decorated cake.  This had been most generously donated by Bruce Mathers’ parents, Bruce being the editor of Te Reo.

 

The highlight of the event was our visitors – many local Maori who are interested in researching their Whakapapa and expressed interest in joining NZSG.
