·        21st September 2005 The Official IOM World's website is finally up and running again at long last. My apologies for the delay.

·        20th September 2005 With grateful thanks to Rainer Blank from Germany & Mark Kennedy from the USA I am able to off load some of my photos to their servers until the traffic dies down. This should enable me to continue to post daily photos from the event. The Official IOM World's website is still temporarily down. Please also bookmark this website  http://users.tpg.com.au/evcowell/ as a backup site.

·        20th September 2005 Due to the large volume of traffic on the IOM World's website my 10 Gb bandwidth allocation per day (or 32,500 limit) has been exceeded (mainly due to the amount of uploads of photos).  My web space is currently being transferred to another server to handle the larger than expected increase in traffic volume, this may take up to 24hrs apparently. Please visit this temporary website (minus photos) until we are up and running again - http://users.tpg.com.au/evcowell/  The forum is not active at this temp address.  Apologies for the obvious inconvenience. Eddie Cowell.

·        20th August 2005 Dear Competitor, The Grove Fruit Juice 2005 IOM World Championships are just around the corner and I would like to take this opportunity to thank-you for your competition entry. On behalf of the Mooloolaba Radio Yacht Club I look forward to welcoming you and your travel companions to our area.

Following is some housekeeping information for your reference and further details that require confirmation, at your earliest convenience.

Your Sail Number and Frequency have been allocated to you and are available for review from the Worlds Website: http://www.rcyachts.net/iomworlds  - you need to click on Competitors List on the top right hand side of the page – (if there is an error or change, please contact David Turton via email on davidturton@bigpond.com). Note there may still be some changes within the 40mhz band so please bring all your crystals that you nominated.

I will be sending you a more detailed measurement briefing, but suffice to say your boat and equipment will be measured in every regard. Please ensure all your equipment will measure before you present it for measurement.

During the regatta the IOMICA Meeting will take place and will consider some rule changes and election of office bearers. The following web link refers http://www.iomclass.org/exec/ICAagenda.pdf

There has been changes to the schedule and location of the functions as the Mooloolaba Yacht Club is currently closed due to been under a Deed of Company Administration and renovations being underway.

To ensure that everyone is catered for, it would be greatly appreciated if function bookings and merchandise orders were PRE-PURCHASED. Please note that the opening and closing ceremonies are provided for in your entry fee. I invite you to bring your partner along to all the functions. There are substantial savings to be made if you prepurchase the function packs. We will be hosting a “Seafood Extravaganza” at one of Australia’s finest seafood restaurants and an “Aussie Beach BBQ”. I promise you quality evenings and have attached an order form for your completion or there is an electronic order form at http://www.rcyachts.net/iomworlds/Spectators%20Pack.htm

Pre-purchased tickets and merchandise are priced at a substantial discount to those purchased at the regatta. Please take advantage of this offer. Unfortunately we are unable to provide Credit Card facilities at registration.

Regarding championship apparel, if you have already purchased a Fleece-Lined Vest, we have negotiated a $25 discount with the supplier and are able to pass this on to you! We can arrange your refund at registration or credit this amount towards a function ticket or further merchandise.

We have excellent sponsors who have supported this regatta and I recommend them to you. If you know of someone that could be providing sponsorship whether in goods, cash or kind please put them in touch with David Turton.

At the end of each sailing day we will be having a few refreshments at the venue courtesy of BennettCarroll Solicitors. There will be daily prizes for Lowest Point score on the day, Largest point movement (either way) and daily prize draws courtesy of our sponsors. On the days where there are functions the prize draws will be held at the function and yes you need to be there to collect. There is everything from Winches, Jackets, Sails, RC Equipment, Clothing and a few novelties.

At the sailing venue, we will have a competitors tent, 500m2. You will be able to leave all your equipment in a secure environment. There will be a fulltime security Guard after-hours and the regatta site is fenced. There will be 240V and 12 v power sources available. Unfortunately we haven’t been able to secure an internet connection for competitors use at the venue, but there are 3 internet cafes in the Mooloolaba area.

Our climate at regatta time is such that you will need to ensure you are protected from the sun. We are sailing in a newly developed area so close to dusk there are sand flies. If you are susceptible, bring your insect repellant.

There will be several areas to launch from and some of these will require wet launch depending on where the courses are laid. Please be aware of this. The beaches are sandy. If you launch from the revetment wall please be aware of the rocks and that there is sufficient water so as not to damage your beautifully finished bulb.

If you have any queries please don’t hesitate to contact myself or post your enquiry on the regatta forum: http://www.rcyachts.net/iomworlds/forum.htm

·        19th August 2005 - 2005 IOM Worlds Invitation Series To be held on the 16th September 2005, starting at 1pm.
This event is open to a limited field of two divisions. These being one of 20 volunteers / helpers who are IOM owners, and the other of 20 overseas world’s entrants. These to be selected from those nominating, giving the fleets an even spread of competing countries if possible.

There will be 2 fleets of 20 boats, (10 from each division).
After the first 2 heats (A+B) of race one the overseas skippers will swap heats and race 2 sailed. At the completion of this race the top 10 of each division (20 boat fleet) will compete in 3 more races to produce an overall winner as well as division winners. Trophies to be presented at the welcoming ceremony that evening.

Overseas entrants competing must ensure their boats are measured prior to 12.30pm on race day.

The purpose of this event is to give the volunteers a chance to race against overseas boats, and also for officials to test their systems.  Online Nomination Form

·        31st May 2005 - Q & A Forum is temporarily down.

·        21st February 2005 - Planning for the IOM Worlds 2005 is well advanced. We have now held two regattas on the venue and have another two Pre Worlds and Qld State Titles regattas to run. The feedback we have had on the quality of the sailing at the venue is very good. No weed, no tide. The schedule has been set for the Worlds regatta and is outlined on the next pages. We welcome spectators to participate in the regattas social side and we have made available spectator packs which can include the whole package from accommodation, meals, transport & functions or a combination. You don't have to qualify to participate in the Worlds social events. We encourage you to Pre book so we can plan and ensure the quality of our functions is 1st class. Unfortunately tickets will not be available at the door to the catered functions. We have secured the services of our International Jury and Umpires, PRO, Assistant PRO Measurement Coordinator, Chief Scorer. We need to fill many more roles and will require the support of the Australian Radio Sailing Community. We will run a split shift system throughout the Worlds for volunteers meaning the majority will do either the morning or afternoon shift. This of course means we need more volunteers, but makes it easier coping with an 8 day regatta. Indicatively we need the following volunteers. Measurement Team - 10 people Registration Hospitality Team - 8 people On Water Team - 6 people Scoring Team - 4 people PRO Team - 10 people Volunteers will be invited to attend the opening & closing functions, supplied with a volunteers pack and lunch. The website will now get regular updates as we close in on the Worlds. Please contact David Turton via email with any queries.

·         7th September 2004 - The Event Schedule has been update.

·        14th May 2004 - IOM Worlds 2005 is going to require a significant contribution from volunteers to help us make this a world class event. We are going to need people for everything from Meet & Greet, hosting, rescue boat drivers, Buoy laying, observers, crowd control, race officials, to being involved with the various sub committees.  The opportunity to participate in IOM worlds events in some capacity is seemingly few and far between given the last IOM worlds in Australia was in Melbourne last century.  In time we will post the detailed Job descriptions of all the roles required, however in the interim if you have an interest in helping us out please advise us your; Name, Contact Details, Available dates (preferably the whole regatta) Include if you are available for any of the pre world regattas. Preferred Roles/level of involvement - Please visit the IOM Worlds 2005 Volunteer Register section of the Forum or email me. Many thanks in advance, David Turton.

·        13th May 2004 - IOM World Champion site is now active as at 2:22pm. However the site is still under construction so please check back regularly.
